Seafarer Certification Renewals Now Available Online

14 February 2026 · NMSA Administrator

NMSA launches a streamlined digital process for maritime qualification renewals.

NMSA has launched a streamlined digital process for renewing maritime qualifications, reducing the time seafarers spend travelling to Port Moresby to lodge paperwork.

Seafarers holding a current Certificate of Competency can now submit a renewal application, upload supporting documents and track progress without attending an NMSA office in person.

What you will need

  • Your existing certificate number and expiry date.
  • Evidence of recent sea service.
  • Proof of identity.
  • Payment of the renewal fee.

New certificate applications continue to follow the existing process. The Authority will extend the digital service to further certificate types during the year.
